OUR
GOAL

Straight_Arrow.gif
Celebrating 11 years of PINC, what is it  like to create in the 11th hour?

To welcome attendees, establish the event’s purpose and theme, and set an energetic, engaging tone for what’s ahead. Our goal was to unite the audience around a shared experience, spark interest, and prepare everyone for meaningful participation throughout the conference.

CONCEPT
DIRECTIONS

SELECTED DIRECTION

01. UNTAMED IMAGINATION

Screenshot 2025-11-19 at 9.29.56 PM.png

An explosion of ideas, sketches, and images that captures the energy of ideating. Visual chaos mirrors the curiosity that unifies PINC’s audience, a shared celebration of imagination and innovation.

02. SYNERGY

PINC is synergetic, where the interaction and collaboration of two or more people creates a result greater than the sum of their parts. One (I) idea shared between two people (I,I) fosters the spread of diverse ideas.

02. THE 11TH HOUR

The 11th hour is when we often construct our wildest ideas. This concept uses unlikely parts to construct new objects/ideas in unexpected ways, representing how limited time helps us create.

PROCESS

PLAYIING
PICASSO

Early on in our development, we brought out the brushes, pens, pencils and markers and truly embodied the art student in us.This early exploration of different shapes and scribbles really helped guide our design choices in a way that felt authentic, tactile and handmade, as well as what specific type of mark making we were looking for.

EARLY
EXPLORA
TIONS

We explored the Grease Pencil in Blender and procedural brush techniques in After Effects. I landed on this exploration that I was pretty satisfied with. Just a couple precomps, displacement map over displacement map over displacement map, and boom!

RESEARCH!

Kiu and I headed to the library in the search for some inspiration. Luckily, there is an entire section dedicated to the most charming children's books! This helped us find the right tone for the narration, the whimsical elements and the right balance between reality and imagination.

LETTING
LOOSE

There's a lot more to chaotic mark making that you'd think! We had to relax our hands and let go of the perfectionist self.Often times, I found that holding my pen like this would help. I also got into the habit of not thinking, just intuitively

TEXTURING &
ANIMATION

We found that the best way to achieve the look and feel we were looking for was through authentic, unadulterated cel animation on Procreate Dreams. There's just something about frame-by frame animation that interpolated keyframes can't recreate!

POSTCARDS!

Every year, PINC gives its attendees a little gift to take home. This year, we came up with the idea of making postcards that are prestamped for people to send out during the conference. A little message, a drawing, anything!

A great way to get the word out around the country and the world about Sarasota's PINC Conference, and a beautiful way to say "I'm thinking of you"!
