After some experimentation and research, I figured out that clay was the perfect medium to portray a simultaneous sense of disgust and cuteness.

 

At first glance this piece is fully stop motion animated, but between you and me... I cheated! (what!!). You see, in my experience stop motion animation is non-flexible and very time consuming - making revisions is really hard, especially on a tight deadline. So while I did in fact stop motion animate part of this piece, some other elements, bits and pieces were composited and animated in After Effects.

In other to achieve this fake stop motion effect, I used Posterize Time, the wiggle() expression and Turbulent Displace! After this project these effects and I were besties.

For the part I did actually traditionally stop motion animate, I also kind of cheated. You see, I'm not a seasoned stop motion animator, so I figured I could make some cel references, overlay them with my camera in DragonFrame and just trace them with clay! Worked wonders - I bet I fooled ya!
